Areas of Practice

Personal Injury/Automobile Accidents

This area of law is the primary focus of our firm. Whether you've been injured in an automobile accident, fallen because of a dangerous condition, or have been injured in some other way due to the negligence of another person, we will help guide you through this trying process. We will gather the information, negotiate a settlement and prepare for trial if a settlement cannot be reached. If you are injured, you will have enough on your plate without having to worry about being compensated for your injuries.

Collections

Another major area of practice is that of debt collection for creditors and businesses. Whether your business is large or small, a huge corporation or a family operation, The Law Offices of Doug White can assist you with the collection of debts owed to you. We understand that the failure of a single customer to pay his or her debts can often harm a small business' bottom line. At the same time, even large operations can be harmed if just a few customers a month don't pay their bills. Although we're not a collection agency, we will contact the debtor and demand payment and, if no payment is forthcoming, file suit on your behalf. If a customer files bankruptcy, we will also represent your interests in that proceeding.

Estate Planning (Wills and Trusts)

Every person should at least consider a will, at the very minimum.  Death is the one thing that we all have in common.  Without a will, the state will decide who receives your assets when you die.  Does each and every person need a will?  No, but people with some assets should look into having one drawn up.  Also, an attorney can recommend some tactics that can reduce the tax burden on your estate and your heirs.  In addition, in some cases, a proper estate plan can reduce the burdens on your estate during your lifetime.  If you plan on passing on your assets to someone else after your death, we will discuss your options with you and, if you decide to do so, draw up an estate plan for you.

Probate, Guardianships and Conservatorships

At The Law Offices of Doug White, we can help an executor administer the estate, ensuring that probate procedures are followed, and that the decedent's estate is properly administered.  This includes collecting the assets, liquidating liabilities, paying the necessary taxes, and distributing the assets.

The appointment of Guardians and Conservators is also part of the Probate Court.  We can help you draw up the paperwork for the appointment of a guardian and/or conservatorship for people that cannot care for themselves, whether due to mental infirmity or advanced age.  After the paperwork is filed, we will represent your interests in Probate Court.

Professional (Legal) Malpractice

Over the years, we have heard that this is the one area in which clients find it difficult to locate an attorney willing to take the case.  As the heading indicates, The Law Office of Doug White will take cases in which another attorney commits malpractice.  These are often difficult cases but we will persevere with you as we find it personally offensive when an attorney commits malpractice as it harms the reputation of every attorney.   Give us a call and we'll discuss whether the situation rises to the level of malpractice.

In addition, The Law Offices of Doug White has represented clients in medical malpractice cases.  There are other types of professional malpractice, too, depending on the profession involved.  Please call us and we'll discuss the situation with you.

General Civil Litigation

Some cases don't fit into any of the areas discussed above, such as the enforcement of contracts and the like.  Please give us a call and we'll be more than happy to talk with you about your case.
